Message Once upon a time was a little purple wonder named Anne. Anne is a 1995 Geo Prizm (corporate cousin of the Toyota Corolla). At 114K, I had the differential replaced, along with the transmission fluid. No problems drove like a dream. Then at 206K, changed timing belt etc and transmission fluid and filter as well. Non-synthetic, OEM recommended formula. Slipped underload immediately (leaving the garage).

After discussing with some old hot rodders at my old job, they suggested the changing of the fluid "flushed out" build up which had been acting like a seal to the internal valves. I know dick about auto trannies, so I let it be. It only slips if I really get on it in first or second. Otherwise, it still runs great and gets me 30+ mpg to the day, just turned 270K. I changed the fluid and filter again at 250K, no difference. So it didnt' get any better, but it didn't get any worse.

This is just my own personal expereince.
